Bah ha ha. More like the ugliest half-bath you've ever seen in your life! This is what our bathroom looked like when we moved in. It's the only bathroom on the main floor and it's in a tiny hallway right off the kitchen. So there was no way we could ever ignore this masterpiece.
One day last fall I came home from work and Alex had the guilty-little-boy look on his face. He told me that he "tried" to take the wallpaper down in the bathroom but then everything else started to look even uglier so then he just ripped everything out.
WHAT!?!?!?!
I am proud to say that he did all of the work himself: plumbing, tiling, trim, electrical, everything.
Now it's my job to finish it off. Hee hee, I always get the fun jobs!
Since the bathroom isn't ready for a reveal just yet, I thought I would share our only two "before" pictures.
Enjoy!
P.S. You're going to want to click on the above pictures to see everything up close.

P.S.S. I'd love to hear what you think was the ugliest feature. I'm going with the light fixture. Blech!
;)
ha ha. I think we have that same light fixture leading down to our basement... :) My favorite ugly feature has got to be the wallpapered outlet though. wtf?! I also like the 5 random tile backsplash. :)
ReplyDeletehmmmm.... i think the floor might be the ickiest. it's one of those floors that looks dirty even if it's not. and i have a half bath that is almost as bad. i have never share pics of it for a reason!!! i plan to redo it this fall. it has horrible pinky-beige tiles, an uglier light fixture, and had the worst med cabinet. oh, and no vanity cab- no room. there's just a porcelain sink attached to the wall.
ReplyDeleteWell, the toilet paper holder is a contender, but I think the title goes to the 5 random tiles. The hell??
ReplyDeleteMy current bathroom has 2 four-bulb fixtures on each side of the mirror. It's blinding. It also features floor to ceiling tile, some glass block, homemade shelves attaching the vanity to the wall, and a mirror in the shower. Alex should feel free to come rip mine out too.
I had never seen the half-bath looking like this. I can't believe you, of all people, managed to see past the knots and the 5 random tiles. Lady, you inspire!
ReplyDeleteOoo! I can't wait to see your reveal. We had a similar bathroom with similar wall paper in our old house.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my blog.

I have to say I actually like the wall paper. I know, it's a mortifying confession, it's true though. I like it. ; )
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see your new bathroom when it's all done!! Good luck!
I have to say that the floor is the least hideous of the entire bathroom, which is saying a lot. Harrah for your hubby ripping the entire room out!
ReplyDeleteIncidentally, I once had a hideous kitchen floor that was similar to this. One day after breaking my back mopping it, a guest came over and tried to pick up one of the spots in the pattern... he thought it was spilled food /8-o
Can't wait to see your finished project!

I must know! Where did you get those gorgeous 1x1 slate tiles. I need them!
ReplyDeleteWe bought the tiles in our half bath at a local tile store but I was able to find the same ones at quite a few online stores, which means I'm sure you would also be able to find them locally.
DeleteThey are called 1 x 1 Indian Autumn slate tiles. :)
