Tonight while I was simultaneously eating my wholesome dinner (a grilled cheese sandwich) and baking blueberry bran muffins (best recipe ever) I decided it was about time to clean out the walk-in pantry. It's on THE LIST. When I say walk-in pantry I really mean the tiny cupboard over the stove that was stuffed to overflowing with baking supplies, spices, and random cooking sauces. I have been putting this off for a long time. So long, in fact, that I just happened to find a box of Betty Crocker cake mix from 2006. Don't worry though, I'll use it up to bake cupcakes for my class if they are bad throw it out. I also noticed that I seem to like things in pairs, threes, fours, or sixes. Two canisters of cocoa, three bags of icing sugar, three boxes of baking soda, three bottles of corn syrup, four boxes of semi-sweet chocolate, six containers of cupcake liners, etc. etc. etc. Right now you might be thinking that I'm such a good planner to purchase all of these supplies ahead of time, except they were, um, all open. At the same time.
For some reason I found itdepressing motivating to stop half-way through cleaning/organizing my cupboards to google pictures of other people's dreamy pantries. Here are some photos that make hearts come out of my eyes.
Love: scalloped trimwork, teeny jars, bright colour. For some reason I found it

Full length double doors would make it soooo easy to find your chocolate chips oatmeal.

I have pantry envy. What's yours like? Am I the only one whose pantry gets out of control?!?!
The one from House of Smiths has been floating around now for a few weeks and every time I see it I just sigh. It's so pretty, I'd love for it to be in my house!
ReplyDeleteI wind up with pantry envy everytime I see photos like these. My current pantry is one that COULD be really nice, but right now, you don't dare fully open the door for fear of being buried alive. I just reach in and grab the first jar I can then shut the door. I even got really motivated at one point, and made these super cute can rollers out of cardboard to help organize...it didn't work. *sigh*
ReplyDeleteMine is like a dark cave. Stained wood shelves that are deep. And my microwave is in there, thanks to the previous owners. It's nice not having it take up space on the counter though.
ReplyDeleteThat first shot looks like a cute old grocery store! I love it.
All these pantries look divine, but do these really exist in the real world? Or, is it just me that's messy? Mine would look like this for a week or so and then it would be back to just stuffing as much as I could on the shelves, all iggle-de-pig-ildy... as we say back home... Lx
ReplyDeleteAhhh! Seriously! I am so jealous. I wish I even had a pantry!
ReplyDeletei have pantry envy, too. because i don't even have a pantry cabinet!!! we just have our kitchen cabinets and have designated a few as food holding cabinets. i would love a real pantry when i grow up.
ReplyDeleteI'm with Caroline....I wish I had one too! Our house is so small, I have things stashed all over the place....in the coffee table, in the closet, in the end table, in the garage....etc! :-)
ReplyDeleteMany Blessings,
M.
PS - I'm a new reader and I love your blog so far!
No, you're not the only one. My pantry is pretty out of control too. It doesn't help that my 1970's kitchen is tiny and has barely any storage space. But wow, I'm super envious of the pantry pictures you posted!
ReplyDeleteYeah, I'm with you on this. But where's the pay off? The photo of YOUR pantry? Oh well. I'm sure it's functional, organized and a work of art too. Keri
ReplyDeleteHi Sarah! Thanks for stopping by The Hillside Home today!
ReplyDeleteI have major pantry envy too. What I wouldn't do for a walk-in pantry with french doors.... swoon. We just moved into a new house and have pretty good sized cupboards to use as a pantry and I'm overwhelmed already just trying to figure out which shelf should be for cereal and which for pasta, etc. The jars you put together are adorable... I might have to follow in your footsteps. :)
Love the photos. Cleaning out my disaster of a pantry is on my to-do list before heading back to work. I think I am going to now search the interwebs for some more ideas and get on that...maybe I'll do a big Sarah-esque before and after on my blog!!!

ReplyDeleteI love the 3rd one with lace curtains on the inside of glass doors. This was from Better Homes & Gardens and have been scouring the internet trying to find anything remotely like this. Any ideas??
ReplyDeleteI've never been able to find the article where this photo originated from. I think it's fairly old so now it's just a lone photo floating around on the internet. :)
