Must.Make.Shutters.

Shutters, shutters, shutters, that's all I can think about.

Shutters are on the curb-appeal wish list. They went on the back-burner when we started our deck project but once I read this post at That House on the Corner, I was inspired.

I could totally make my own. Right?

Hmmmm, now to decide on a style. Paneled? Louvered? Board and batten? Which style is your favourite?

Don't tell anyone but I spent way too long this morning googling images of cute shutters. That must be why I'm still in my pajamas and it's 3:00 in the afternoon. Whoops. :)

Here's what I found:

Um, can I please get one of those tiny arched windows (above) installed in my house please? Please!?!?!

  1. Hmm, the first, third, and then the fourth from the end maybe jumped out at me, although how can one really choose one shutter over another? The general idea of ones like those pictured throughout (including the second-last photo) are quite pretty, and look fairly straightforward to make. I always wanted shutters, although my Craftsman-style 1x1/2 storey bungalow with glassed in front porch and rows of little windows doesn't really lend itself to putting shutters anywhere. MAYBE the upper front windows...hmm...

  2. Too many cute ones! But the second one I love. Cut out, color, light and even the basket. I will take them all!

  6. Board and batton!! My husband made some board and batton shutters for our windows this summer out of inexpensive pine boards. They were really easy to make, and I love how they look! We hung them with strap hinges that we picked up at the local hardware store and ordered some shutter dogs online to finish the look. It really changed the look of our house. Love my shutters! :)
I am a new follower and have been spending the morning reading your old posts. Love your blog!
Hope you have a great weekend.
    Beth.

  7. Great exterior shutter inspiration. The louvered and board and batten shutters add so much to each house. The added plus is the authentic exterior shutter hardware.

  8. Hello Sarah! Love the shutters!! Having my husband make them for the inside of my windows (I have issues with a lot of curtains...lol) Shutters will be the *PERFECT* answer. We live wayyyyyy out in the boonies and must have something up as there were loads of break-ins out my way last summer/fall and I don't want would be intruders lookin' in when I can't look out and see them. Thanks again Sarah! Awesome blog!!
