The baseboards in our house were pretty plain and ordinary when we moved in. We thought we could spiff 'em up a bit by adding a piece of trim on top. We've been going through the house, room by room, patching and sanding and priming and painting and adding extra trim. We've also been adding crown moulding to many rooms but that's another story for another day. We made the lazy smart choice and picked pre-primed mdf. It kinda bugs me that it's not real wood but then I think about the extra step of priming all the pieces before installing them and then it doesn't bother me as much. :)
We're done adding the top piece of trim to the baseboards in the breakfast room. We're making slooooow progress in there because we have project ADD of all the other things goin' on (birthday parties, weddings, overnight guests, etc.). What a crazy time of year!!!
I'm always amazed at how much a new coat of paint can freshen up a space. With the baseboards and window trim all painted white, it's looking like a new room!
My next project on the list is to prime and paint the new closet door. I'll have to use shellac-based primer since the other primer we used on the last one didn't cover the knotholes well enough.
Our breakfast room is going to need two of those 5-panel bi-fold doors (one for the closet and one for the entrance) but the cost is giving me a bleeping heart attack! Can you believe that it is 200 bucks PER door!?!?! We looked into getting mdf ones instead (to save money) but they are special order and end up costing more than the solid wood ones. Crazy, man. Crazy.
Here are some photos showing our little bit of progress:
P.S. I got good news that I'm not going to need cut-me-open knee surgery for my lame-o soccer injury. Did I ever mention that injury? Prob'ly not 'cause it's so embarrassing. Anyway, it looks like I'll just need a minor procedure to mend what was torn. Woohoo! I'm so excited. I've been out of commission since it happened in June and I can't wait to start being active again. No more chips and watching movies like The Proposal (um, hel-lo Ryan Reynolds) over and over again.
it looks great... it's all in the details!;)
ReplyDeleteBig difference there! It's looking great. Trim can be such a pain to paint but looks so good when its done.
ReplyDeleteI love it! Our baseboards are so boring too! Good for you for taking the time to tackle them and spruce them up. It just looks great! Hopefully, we can do that some day!
ReplyDeleteBTW, LOVED The Proposal. My husband and I were pleasantly surprised at how lame it wasn't. :)
paint always makes such a great transformation! baseboards are looking good!
ReplyDeleteI love the baseboard trim idea! I may have to try it my self!
ReplyDeleteGo for it! All you need is an air compressor / nailer combo and some caulking.
ReplyDeleteAnd patience, of course. :)
Oh yeah, and a mitre saw.
