Our house was built in the forties and has some very interesting features. The original house had a side door that opened right onto the basement staircase landing. It was small and cramped and kinda dangerous. The previous owners (who lived there until they were ninety, how cute is that!?) had a tiny addition built around the side door. Except I don't know what they were thinking 'cause it's still really small. It's also really ugly.
First, it has carpeting. It looked great when we moved in but after only a few days with a muddy golden retriever it didn't look so hot. Second, it has a little cubby/closet for coats n' things but it doesn't have a door. I'll let you imagine a mess of coats and dog poo-bags and leashes and shoes. Not pretty. Third, each wall is made of a different material. One wall is painted brick (the original exterior), one side is painted paneling (ew), and the other is painted textured plaster. Fourth, the trim and baseboards they used don't match the rest of the house. Fifth, it's beaten to all heck from so much use. There are dings and dents all over the place. And last but not least, it's sooooooo small still. When there are a few people coming in at once it's so crowded and dangerous (don't forget it's at the top of the stairs).
Why am I rambling on about this you ask? I have no idea. Oh yeah, I wanted to disguise a bit of the ugliness. Awhile back I purchased two matching picture frames from Homesense for one of the tiny walls. The frames have been sitting in a closet for about half a year 'cause I couldn't find anything to put in them.
This morning I decided to just stick some pretty scrapbook paper in (for now) and get them hung on the wall. Alex wasn't here so I just used nails (instead of anchors and screws). Soooo much faster.
Now, before you start thinking that I'm a crazy scrapbook paper lady, I want to remind you that these are temporary and that the only other scrapbook papers I have in my house are in those two tiny butterfly pictures. Hmmmm, tiny butterfly pictures and now butterfly scrapbook paper. Maybe I'm turning into the crazy butterfly lady.......

Trying to see what would look good. |
All cut out and ready to go. |
The butterfly paper was from this pack at Michaels. |

I think I like it. |
Better than nothing, right? |
Well, my work for the day is done. Time for a little snooze. I've had a terrible cold all week and am still all sniffly and pathetic.
Unrelated Note #1: I'm trying out bigger photos and a different font. Do you like the changes or should I go back to the usual?
Unrelated Note #2: I'm desperate for a new follower. I logged on yesterday to see 169 instead of 170. Someone actually went to the trouble of unfollowing my blog. I'm still crying inside and wondering what I did wrong. Boo hoo!
Unrelated Note #3: Just want to say hi to a few of my new followers. Thanks for stopping by and please don't stop following (see above). I'll be your best-friend in the whole wide world.
Haha, you're really funny.
ReplyDeleteI'm really loving your blog!
{I'm a New follower & new to the bloggin' world}

Hi Crazy, butterfly, scrapbook lady, ha! Just kidding! I really like your new art. It's adorable!! Every so often my followers go down a few numbers and then they go back up. Don't worry about it. It's not you it's them! :)
ReplyDeleteI'm a new follower and trust me, there is no way I am stopping. Your blog is cute. And I don't mind the changes.
ReplyDeleteThe pictures are cute.
Now you are back to 170! :) I like your butterfly pics and new lamp shade.
ReplyDeletei'm a fairly new follower and i love, love, love your blog. i actually referenced you in a post on mine. change is good, but i like your blog the way it is!
ReplyDeleteHi Sarah,
ReplyDeleteI have had the same thing happen with followers. But sometimes it is one number down and then the next day it goes back up. So it could be someone having issues with blogger :-) However, I have had you on my side bar for a long time, but now I am following. I hope you will stop by and follow me too ;-D

Those are just freakin' awesome. Pretty colors!
ReplyDeleteI'm a follower because I just love your style, and try not to worry too much about losing followers. It happens to all of us. Sometimes folks need to streamline their reading lists....maybe some lady who likes country ducks and wood stuff with hearts cut out followed you because of a project you did, but realized later you just aren't her style :)
I unfollow folks routinely (about every 2 months I go thru a purge) when my google reader becomes too overwhelming. I only do so for those that I just find I don't jive with their style after reading several posts over a couple months. Or that never comment or participate at my place. Or post something that ticks me off :) Just kiddin'.
If it makes you feel better, my subscription numbers dropped by 90 overnight a week or so ago. It bothered me so much I took the widget off my sidebar.
chin up! You do great work, have a great sense of style, and I won't be unfollowing you for sure.
How cute it turned out. I don't think it should be temporary. I like it. I like the colors too.
ReplyDeleteYou crack me up and I like coming here so I will not be unfollowing :) I had that happen a few weeks ago and it crushed me too. But I got over it. I agree with what Cindy said. People just figure would what their style is. I should do what she does and go through my list as my reader is becoming overwhelming and I am getting absolutely nothing done because I feel like I have to read everything in my reader everyday. I need to work on that. Its getting nuts.
I like the larger pictures and new font. Keep it! In the case of photos, bigger is better in my book.
Hey look, you're at 172, now cheer up okay? :)
173...woo hoo! you are too funny and i love your blog! i have to totally copy this project from you...love! (hope you don't mind) hope you're feeling better too! deb
ReplyDeleteThose are really cute! Love the butterflies.

Love what you have been doing. Found this blog and pressed follow right away. I feel like we should be neighbors or something. Could be good times. :) cheers!
ReplyDeleteI'm thinkng about unfollowing some blogs and it's ONLY because of the state of my reader, like anita says! But I don't do it, because I don't want to cause an existential crisis for anyone :)
ReplyDeleteIt looks cute and the perfect size for the space =)
ReplyDeleteThe butterflies look adorable in their matching frames.
ReplyDeleteI know just what you mean about the angst of follower numbers when you are just before a big one. I have had 198 for a week or so now and it doesn't seem to change - a bit agonizing.
I am a new follower and already love your blog!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great solution. The pictures look great .... not temporary!
ReplyDeleteYou are so cute!! I feel bad that you are bummed that you lost a follower so I just took their spot.
