Amidst the Thanksgiving/Christmas craziness we've found bits of time to work on the breakfast room. I thought I'd share our progress so far.
First, just for fun, I'll show you a few shots of the room the day we moved in. Compared to the rest of the house, this room was the least ugly. But it was still pretty plain. And beige.
|
Those curtains have been my nemesis since this spring when I finally got to take them down.
I stomped on them. |
|
The previous owners really liked beige. Like, really liked it. |
|
I have no idea why there is a hunter green patio set in the kitchen.
P.S. Our kitchen still looks like that. :S Minus the hunter green. |
|
Random shot of Roary. |
Here's how the room is looking as of this morning:
|
We installed a new 5-panel bifold door on the closet. |
|
We primed and painted it Simply White. |
|
We added a sparkly knob. |
|
We patched, primed, and painted the walls Seagrass and the ceiling Simply White.
We also added crown moulding (I knew I would get my way eventually).
We filled the nail holes, caulked, and painted the moulding, too. |
|
We added the extra piece of trim on the baseboards and primed and painted them Simply White. |
|
We painted out all of the window trim in Simply White. |
|
We also installed my favourite roller shades of all time.
We also have these in our living room, dining room, and spare room.
I really do love them. |
|
Had to block the view of Alex's fire-engine red trailer in the backyard. |
|
Here's the other window. |
|
This shade blocks the view of the cars in the driveway. Sweet. |
There's still a bit of finishing work to do before we can start on the fun stuff like rugs, light fixtures, table/chair makeover, curtain rods, curtains, and accessories. But we're getting there. :)
Oh, so pretty. You sure know how to create great 'bones' for your room. I love the colour and the shades look fabulous. Everything looks so fresh. The new closet doors look amazing. I love white trim! Looking forward to the next phase.
ReplyDeleteIt is looking FAB! Love that simply white ... it makes everything look simply wonderful! Can't wait to see the rest!
ReplyDeleteSarah ... great colours. Love the bi-fold door.
ReplyDeleteWhere did you get the blinds? ... they could become my favourite too ...
Love the glass door knobs, nice touch! xo
ReplyDeleteI love your roller shade too! Where's it from? How much?
ReplyDeleteNice job! I love the colour--which brand of paint do you use?
ReplyDeleteSharon and Courtenay,
ReplyDeleteI got the roller shades a few years ago when Linens N' Things was still in business in Canada. I found them on one of their last days they were still open and bought the last seven shades. We've put them up as we work on each room (these were our last two). I checked online but they don't seem to carry the exact type anymore although they do have a few different styles with the same medium brown tone.... sorry that doesn't help much!
Sarah
Cara,
ReplyDeleteI am in love with that greeny colour, too. It's a colour from Sarah Richardson's Collection through Para Paints. It's called Seagrass and you can find it at this link:

This is only the second time I've used a different paint brand than usual. I almost always use Benjamin Moore paint but this time I couldn't find a light, airy green so I went with this one and loved it. Hope that helps!!

I think things are turning out amazing! I love the "pop" of the blinds in the windows. Although I'm not a huge fan of blinds, I absolutely love those and was going to ask where you found them. Of course after reading the previous comments I realize me getting some of those is out of the question! :( The sparkly bifold door knobs are so cute. Just a little "bling"... Gorgeous!!!! I can't wait to see it all done. Have fun! It's looking fantastic.
ReplyDeleteBig improvement! Now that the basics are done the decorating can begin! It's so funny that you stomped on the curtains!
