Craft punches are really addictive. I just can't stop. I started with one craft punch (a butterfly). Then I got two more during the holidays (small and large tags). And now I've gone and bought my fourth one (a heart).
Since I'm giving away two craft punches for my 400 Followers Giveaway (400? Woah.) I thought I'd share a little Valentine's Day craft that you could make for just about anyone. I made mine for Alex. I know that he is really going to appreciate a hand-made gift that's got pink, white, polka dots, and hearts. But what can I say, that's just the kind of wifey I am. Heh heh heh.
This little craft is based on the 3-D Butterfly art that I already did, as well as some art from someone's Etsy shop that I saw once and loved. I thoroughly enjoy stealing tweaking other people's fabulous ideas.
Oh yeah. This is Version I. Version II is in the works.
11x14 frame from Michaels. |
I bought a white, 11x14 picture frame from Michaels when they were 50% off.
Double matte from Michaels. |
I bought a double matte from Michaels with a 40% off coupon.
Martha Stewart heart punch and tiny foam dots. |
I used some sticky foam dots that I already had (from Michaels) as well as the Martha Stewart craft punch. (That I also bought from Michaels.)(With another coupon.)(I'm a freaky coupon clipper.)
I found a tattered old copy of one of my favourite books from when I was little. Okay, it's still one of my favourites and I read it to my class every year.
I punched out a bunch of hearts from the book, making sure to find cute words. I was going to punch out the word "stinkbomb" as a joke but I decided to stick with the cute theme. I ended up using 34 hearts with print on them and 1 scrapbook paper heart.
I arranged them on a background of white scrapbook paper using a basic grid that I made in Word.
Ooooh, I think I like it leaning up there in the front entry.
Happy Valentine's Day toMEEEEEEE Alex! :)

Oooh, you KNOW how much I love this, right??? Hmmm...I think a heart punch needs to be in my future. Unfortunately my husband does not appreciate hearts. Do you think Martha makes a 'poker' themed punch? Or maybe a 'pint glass' or 'hockey puck'?
ReplyDeleteLOL!
Again, looks awesome, my talented friend!
Claire
Very well done and I'm loving that it's NOT pink and fluffy, the book print is the perfect solution (and I was glad to see it was Charlotte's Web - love that story!). I will have to steal from you, isn't imitation the highest form of flattery?
ReplyDeleteThanks for the idea.
I adore this!!! Simple & Sweet ....I wish my husband would appreciate this, but you have inspired me to come up with my own version for my daughters room makeover! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThat is so cute, I LOVE it!!! I hope I win that punch, and I will make this!
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful weekend. :)
Jodi
Very cute! I totally woulda used stinkbomb =)
ReplyDeleteI love it! I have a heart punch, and a white frame purchased for another project that didn't happen. I'll pop over to the used book store later for an appropriate book, and we're good to go! As Jaime said, imitation is the greatest form of flattery.
ReplyDeleteadorable!
ReplyDeleteGreat inspiration. I need to change out the frames from Christmas with something for Valentine's Day! I think I may "borrow" this idea! Any idea's for St Patty's and Spring?
ReplyDeleteLOVE IT!!!! The book print is the perfect touch. :)
ReplyDeleteSo cute! I love the printed hearts, and the single heart with scrapbook paper is a perfect whimsical touch.
ReplyDeleteCan I borrow your brain please? This is fantastic. Truly! I'm blown away.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you made a post...I was starting to have cozy.cottage.cute withdrawal (I'm pathetic, I know!)

This is so incredibly cute. I can see it in colours or pinks and reds for some, but I'm really loving the book print. Very simple. I may just have to brave the snow for a trip to Michaels. I have a large circle and a medium tage punch, but I really like this heart one. Thanks for sharing.

ReplyDeleteI made one using a butterfly punch for my granddaughter's room when she was a baby. We punched the butterflies from the cards my daughter received at her baby shower. It was a good use of all those cards and sweet art for
Bayleigh's room. I really do love your heart version.
What a cute idea! Now I've got some ideas for bedroom art for my girls!!
ReplyDeleteI blogged about a similar piece - using butterflies. Gret job.

Super cute! I told hubby about it and said I wanted to make one and he was actually okay with it LOL I got a different (bigger heart) punch and a 10x13 frame on sale @ Michael's. I also used burlap as the backdrop and punch the hearts form some scrapbook paper that had a script type font and then a few red hearts from another red paper. It turned out really cool and hubby said it was worth me buying the stuff <3
ReplyDeleteOne of the most unique and cutest creations I have ever seen!

ReplyDeleteThanks!!!!
How do you use the grid? You can't put it behind the paper and see through the paper to the lines... I could really use a grid too. I cannot ever get anything to go perfectly straight across a page or cut anything perfectly straight... Where did you get the grid or how did you make it? I can look back at old entries if you already posted about this.

Hi, You did send me the grid, This is my first project like this.Im not sure how to use the grid, I would appreciate your help. You did a wonderful job.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much.
The grid will print on two pages because it didn't fit on one page. So after it prints you will have to just tape the pages together.
DeleteWhere the lines intersect will be where you place the hearts / butterflies / or other shapes.
That's it!
Good luck.
Please send me the grid!! This is SUCH a great idea!

Hi Sarah! Love this project. Just wanted to alert you that a site that appears to be a scraper site is pinning your project to Pinterest (it's what lead me here) and while they do link to you, their post includes multiple pictures and I'm not certain they had your authorization to do so. Here's a link: http://craftideas.bitchinrants.com/punch-a-hole-in-the/ And I know (from experience) that if you ask them to remove the content and they don't, you can report them to both Google AND flag them on Pinterest. Just want to make sure you get the traffic you're entitled to! This is a gorgeous creation. (I manually changed the link in the pin I repinned to make sure it directs here.) And if for some reason you did authorize the feature on their site, well then, you can just ignore me. ;-) Hope you had a happy holiday! -Lauren from The Thinking Closet
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Lauren. I really appreciate you taking the time to let me know. I'm going to investigate now.... !!!
