Tiny Antique Desk - Before and After

Monday, January 3, 2011

I'm sort of done my first project of the year. Woohoo! I sanded, primed, and painted (three times) my antique desk thingy. Except........ I haven't done the matching chair. Yet. The chair just had so many round parts. And round parts are hard to paint. So I'll devote the next few days, and a whole other blog post, to the teeny tiny chair once it's done. Plus, this desk thingy looks super cute without a chair anyway.

Here's a reminder of what it looked like before. Pretty cute, but not white.

Here is what it looked like during the transformation process. Some primer, some wood-filler, a big mess.

And here is what it looks like now. Yay!

There's a little spot at the front for a little basket or in this case, a candle-holder turned tiny container.

When you flip the piece around there is a "secret" opening. I already mentioned that that's where I'll be stashing all of the receipts from my "secret" purchases. Heh heh heh.

And just for fun here are some before and after shots.

P.S. I'll be doing a step-by-step explanation of how I transformed this piece when I do the matching chair. I just didn't take enough photos of the desk as I was working on it because I was in a mad rush to get my first project of the year done. I can't wait to try it out in the living room!

P.S.S. The colour is Simply White by Benjamin Moore (of course).

P.S.S.S. The knobs are from.... Home Depot. I know, right?

I'll be sharing this project at these lovely places. Check 'em out:

  3. It is SO CUTE!!! Much better white! You did a great job with the distressing. Although I love distressed furniture, I always find it so hard to start sanding a piece I worked so hard at painting. Looking forward to seeing the chair. :)
