First of all, from the bottom of my achy breaky heart, I want to thank all of you for all of the supportive, encouraging, and down-right flattering things that you had to say after I shared this post.
I received over 100 replies via blogger, Facebook, and personal email. Many of them from readers who had never ever left a comment before. I was amazed, and incredibly grateful.
There are people out there who read this and actually like it?!?!? (Awkward happy dance.)(Probably The Carlton.)
I wish I could have responded to every single comment. Instead, I will respond by:
1) Saying THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
2) Informing you that we are now besties.
3) Inviting you for a walk to the corner store to get chocolate popsicles.
4) Sharing an adorable photo of a cute kid in our ugly, imperfect kitchen.
So how about I follow up on a few things, m'kay?
Master Bedroom Mirror
I shared in a previous post that after visiting Crate and Barrel I was having non-buyer's remorse about not purchasing their Frisco mirror.
Frisco Mirror - Bottom Right Source: Crate and Barrel |
I thought it would add a little bit of softness to all of the hard lines we have going on in our master bedroom at the moment.
I also thought it would compliment the large, wooden mirror I picked up from Homesense a month or so ago.
After getting paid for a few little freelance articles (woah does that sound weird or what) I had some extra spending money burning a hole in my pocket. And then the mirror went on sale. And then the mirror arrived on my doorstep.
{Alex asked me why we needed two mirrors. I told him that one of them was to actually use and the other one was to look pretty. I'm almost positive he rolled his eyes at me.}
The colour isn't as dark as I remembered it in the store but it's still really pretty and provides some nice contrast. I can't take a picture of the whole wall because I haven't made the bed in two weeks and the duvet cover is lost in a basket of clean but unfolded laundry - possibly forever.
So here is just a quick snapshot of the new mirror leaning on our sock cabinet (Alex's sock collection is out of control).
Basement Fireplace Tiles
Awhile back I shared a picture of our basement fireplace area.
I mentioned that we were trying to find some tiles that would work with our existing gas stove. Since that last post we have gone ahead and chosen the tiles, ordered them, and picked them up!
Alex hasn't installed them yet but it's still exciting to think that it could happen soon. Here are the tiles we chose.
Despite the weird colouring in my photo, the above tiles are a light grey colour with the look and texture of old wood. They are awesome. We are going to use the small, brick tiles in the fireplace surround behind the stove. We also ordered these tiles in a large, square size for the hearth which will (hopefully) be flush with the flooring.
We ordered only three of these large, reclaimed-wood-look tiles. They will be used around the front of the fireplace surround and the mantle will be built around them. We had to leave some clearance between the mantle and the gas stove so these tiles will do the trick while still looking like real wood.
So those are my little updates for today.
Thanks for reading and just being awesome in general.
Okaybye.
I can't believe those are tiles and not actual pieces of wood! They're going to look awesome!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Kate! I thought I would really struggle to find some rustic-looking tiles but the local stores in our city have really gotten better over the last few years. We found these on our very first tile-shopping adventure. :)
DeleteI love the reclaimed-wood-look tiles you're using. Could you share the manufacturer's name?
ReplyDeletePS - I LOVE your blog too. And that meany who posted that nasty comments clearly has been sucking on too many lemons.:-)
I will absolutely share the name of the manufacturer. I just have to get hubs to dig out the invoice tomorrow. He's out partying tonight while I'm at home watching America's Next Top Model. ;)
DeleteP.S. Thank you, you are a dear. :)
So, I admit....I've never posted on a blog before, ever. I felt I needed to comment on yours. I love your blog and yep, I must confess I do get a little disappointed when I click on your blog and I don't see a post, but it's only because I love your style, wit, and honesty and want to read what's new. That being said, don't give any more thought to the folks out there that can't help but be negative. You have a lot of people who love your blog.
ReplyDeleteTHANK YOU SO MUCH for commenting. I feel honoured that I was your first one, hahaha. :) It really is a great motivator to hear that people are reading and looking forward to posts. That being said, let's see if I can maybe write another one this week. ;)
DeleteNot to be guilty of plagiarism, I could almost repeat word for word what lil'monkeysmama posted. I, too, have never posted a comment. I also feel exactly the same way as she stated about your blog and your writing style, and I, too, was appalled at the comment by the meanie. And I look forward to your posts, and I always know that when they come they are definitely worth waiting for! I much prefer quality to quanity, so don't let some jealous reader discourage you from what you do. What you do on your blog is great in every aspect, and I personally enjoy your tone, your content, and your style both in decorating and in writing. P.S. I only posted as anonymous because I don't fit any of the other categories!
DeleteHOLLA!!!!! If your comment had one of those like buttons I would press it 10x. Thank you so much. I'll keep plugging along doing what I'm doing knowing that I've got you guys!!!! :)
DeleteOooooh, love the cool tile you guys chose!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Lisa! I'm so behind on my blog reading I am making a mental note to head on over to yours to see what you have been up to lately!!!! :)
DeleteWow. You bought a mirror. All that for a mirror. And an unfinished basement. Yawn!
ReplyDeleteBut it's a really pretty mirror.... and the basement is almost finished. We just need about 25 more weekends. ;)
DeleteIf anonymous is so bored, then why comment and follow? We love this blog, anonymous! Go find something that interest you!
DeleteLove the mirror. Thank you for the idea. I've done a number of professional interior design projects for clients, but I learn from you. You have a marvelous sense of balance and style, and I love how you use great design standards, but then add a bit of whimsey or something that's just a click left of center that completely removes any hint of stuffiness. Great tile choice! Thanks yet again for a fun read. Keep it up.... please!
ReplyDeleteElaine, what a flattering thing to say. I often pretend in my mind that I am good at interior design but most of the time feel like I have no idea what I'm doing. LOL.
DeleteAnd no-one had commented to say that they liked the mirror so I started having doubts about my choice. Phew! Thanks for sharing that you like it!
PS... I don't think you should approve posts by annonymous people whose only purpose in commenting is to insult you and hurt your feelings. They have no place in your life, or on your pages.
ReplyDeleteI agree. I think that from now on I will take your advice!
DeleteLove it all!!!! We are besties always n forever!! You post "pretties" show the Coop-a-loops washing a dish and I'm in heaven! Frisco mirror? Sigh....solid choice as I sip my coffee...and why, Yes. Yes to two mirrors. Why not. The tiles are gorgeous. Would love to change mine and I will in time. Just like you, I have a real life a real job and very real family....who are hungry several times a day. *gasp* how dare they? I'm trying to decide on paint swatches darn it!!
ReplyDeleteAhahaha. This comment made me laugh out loud. Besties fo sho. And I totally get the hungry thing. I'll JUST be getting something done when I hear, "I WANT NUM NUMSSSSSSSSSSS!!"
DeleteAw, maaaaaaaaaan.
:)
Love the mirror. I can't wait to see the final results! Your style is my style. ;)
ReplyDelete:)
DeleteLove the tile choice! Can't wait to see how it turns out :)
ReplyDeleteBTW, love the mirror too....forgot to say that because I had the tile on my mind ;)
ReplyDeleteI wanted to tell you that I LOVE your blog and all your content. NEVER apologize for being YOU- authentic and family first. Thats one of the things that I love about you and your blog. Blogging may be a thing of the past in years to come but your child, your husband, your friends and your career will be always be there. I could go on and on about how much I love your style, your humor etc. but you know how all your readers feel so I wont. I will say keep doing what you do lady and forget that haters! HA! You are making amazing progress on the basement btw!!!

ReplyDeleteHow did you know chocolate popsicles are my favourite?!! :) Girl, you keep doing what you're doing. You're genuine, real, and honestly have to please no one but yourself so blog the way you want to blog. If you show up at Christie Antique Show, I'll get YOU a popsicle to show you how much I enjoy your blog, m'kay?
ReplyDeleteLove the tiles. I really like their light colour and how they'll contrast with the stove.
Just wanted to add my two cents worth--I normally never comment on blogs, but I want you to know I LOVE yours and only have a couple decorating blogs in my favorites and yours is one of them. I love your style and copy it all the time. I completely understand not having time to post with a little one in the house (and what a blessing to have THAT as a reason for no time!!)--and it's always a bit like a 'present' when I see you've put a new post up!
ReplyDeleteDear anonymous
ReplyDeleteI thought you were unfollowing...
LOL!
DeleteHi Sarah!
ReplyDeleteSo, I was gonna paint our bedroom pale grey blue like SW Sea Salt or something.
But I absolutely love the serene-ness (is that a word?) of the walls in your bedroom.
What is the color in your bedroom, if you don't mind me asking?
(If you've listed it someplace else, I missed it, sorry!)
You inspire me to keep only those things that are meaningful and loved :)
Blessings to you as you make your home!
Hi Leslie, the colour in our master bedroom is Old Prairie by Benjamin Moore! It's the same colour in our little guys bedroom as well. I hope that helps! :)
DeleteI'm viewing your blog for the first time. Your home is beautiful and anyone who comes on here with negative comments need to go find something else to do.
ReplyDeleteI love the tiles. I'm definitely pinning. I think they would work so well as a backsplash especially in the new vintage-style homes we're planning to build.
ReplyDeleteLove your new mirror, your tile and your style! Your blog has always been one of my favourites…whether you post once a day or once a month!
ReplyDeleteHi Sarah, I'm just read the comment that was so rudely made. I can't believe someone would be so terribly unappreciative of a person out there blogging at their own free will. I find it difficult to find time just to serve a decent dinner some nights, not to mention running around to different sporting events, school activities, play dates, Doctor's appointments, church functions, work, grocery shopping & cleaning. Sorry to comment myself...you are probably so over this by now, but "Wow", I'm just shocked! What an incredibly self serving comment she made! Allison xoxo
