It's just the weirdest thing. I have this unexplainable love affair with white. I have no idea why I love it so much - but the obsession has been going strong for years n' years and only seems to be getting stronger.
In the past, I've always painted rooms with subtle colours and then added in a tonne of white furniture and accessories. I've never actually painted a room white (which is also weird because I have about 1000 pictures of rooms with white walls pinned to my Pinterest boards).
I've been itching to try it and I finally mustered up the guts to just go for it. Of course I would have preferred if the room were covered in cozy, cottage-y wooden planks but I'll take plain white walls for now.
{Wooden planks = googly eyes.}
I know these pictures aren't the most exciting but they will show how the new nursery is a completely blank slate right now.
{I pretended that I didn't hear Alex when he described the room as looking like "an asylum". Boys, am I right?!?!?}
I had a really difficult time choosing between Simply White and White Dove, both by Benjamin Moore. Simply White is quite a bit brighter, however White Dove would have provided a little bit more contrast against the doors and trim. In the end, I went with Simply White.
And, uhhhhh, it's pretty white!
As soon as I finish up this post I'm hoping to iron the new crib skirt and sheets so that I can assemble the crib bedding and show you the sweet quilt that I found - hopefully tomorrow.
Four posts in a row? Don't get sick of me, m'kay?
:)
P.S. Have you ever painted a room white? Did you love it or, you know, not love it?
P.P.S. I only have two more days of work left and then I am off for sixteen glorious months.
P.P.P.S. Of course I will be able to get into shape, be supermom, blog daily, and complete all of the DIY projects on my never-ending to-do list while I am off. Sigh, a girl can dream!
I started making the switch to white last year maybe. Painted my master white and my dressing room (now Luca's big boy room). So awesome. Especially the master. Sigh. Love white.
ReplyDeleteThe new nursery looks amazing white especially with those floors!!
Off for 16 months?? That's amazing! I wish! The walls look great.
ReplyDeleteHi Sarah, I love your white walls! I painted our walls all sorts of colours and finally did them all white throughout the whole house and I couldn't be happier. It is called Dulux Natural White and it is the perfect not too bright white. I find it very comforting and cozy. Good luck with the new baby and decorating your nursery! :) Julie
ReplyDeleteA certain "boy" that I know just today said that too much white in a room makes it "cold." I disagree. Your room will be lovely.
ReplyDeleteI've always had white walls and love them. Especially with wood floors. Your room looks lovely.
ReplyDeleteWhite walls allow for so much freedom in art and furnishings! It is my preference and I see so much potential in this room! Use those 16 months wisely... Or watch Netflix... Either way I hope you enjoy! 😊
ReplyDeleteI love white walls to! My whole house is painted different colors at the moment, but I'm thinking of painting my master bedroom white. I have beige carpet though (which I would love to replace) so I'm not sure how the white will look.
ReplyDeleteWe have a white playroom in the basement and a Simply White spare room. I'm ready to paint the whole house white and add in colour through accents but my husband isn't so sure!
ReplyDeleteOh, I think it will be lovely! I'm going more and more white in my house, too. In fact, we're re-doing our kitchen...white cabinets (BM white dove) and walls (plank--BM Simply White), and white-ish quartz countertops (I wish I would have held firm in getting the butcher block countertops I really wanted but was talked out of). Lots of pops of color will be needed to warm it up, but I'm hoping we'll love it. Nice to know there are other lovers of white painted homes out there--I'm not alone, yay! Love all your decorating so much!
ReplyDeleteBe still my heart! Absolutely love the white walls, so calming and peaceful. Can't wait to see the finished room.
ReplyDeleteI have not painted a room white. After living on campus in college, then moving into apartments, yada yada, when I bought a house I swore I would never live with plain jane white walls again. LOL BUT......now that its been a while, I have been considering painting my kitchen in white. Not sure yet. I will probably opt for white cabinets instead, but there is something so fresh and clean about a white kitchen. I can't wait to see the rest of this room. I love your style and I know its going to be so pretty when its all said and done!
ReplyDeleteLove the white Sarah! It's funny how much courage it takes to paint a room white, isn't it? I finally took the plunge last summer with our hall and stairwall - had a minor panic attack when the hubs came home and thought I was rolling on primer - but once it was finished I LOVED it. I want to paint more rooms white now. I think you're going to end up loving it too. Can't wait to see more! :)
ReplyDeleteYay to being off from work! The white looks fabulous, especially with those wood floors! I painted our living room, basement bedroom and our smallest bedroom/sewing room (BM Cotton Balls white) a few years ago and fell in love with white. Since then I have painted our kitchen, dining room, and half of our family room Simply White. Next up is our master bedroom and guest bedroom (patching and priming stage right now.) I just wish our rooms had gorgeous wood floors.
ReplyDeleteI've been painting white for years :-) It's fresh, light and goes with all my stuff! I must say, you're very disciplined to leave the room empty with the walls finished - I would've painted around stuff - I'm so impatient with painting!!! Can't wait to see the crib in there - well done Sarah. Greetings from Melbourne!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE white! My five year old always says, "Why do you always have to paint everything white? White isn't even part of ROYGBIV."
ReplyDeleteEvery home I have had has all white walls throughout the entire house. My palette is layers of white. So yes I love white living.
ReplyDeletelove it
ReplyDeleteLooks beautiful! I have never painted a room white either {although I love them!} but we have simply white for our baseboards and kitchen cabinets. Can't wait to see what the nursery looks like when you are done!
ReplyDeleteMy whole house, including cabinets are all white...the color comes from my antiques, signs, collections, etc. love it!
ReplyDeleteDover White by SW is a great white for walls. Also Alabaster White by SW.
ReplyDeleteLove this like of work. I really like your writing style and how you express your ideas. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteAh, white. I can understand the love affair - a well-maintained white paint looks so elegant and classy after all!
