Sarah - your kitchen is anything but ugly! I only wish I had such a cute kitchen. If I were you, I would change the countertop to a butcher block counter from Ikea, put beadboard or subway tiles part way up the wall, and a new floor and cabinet hardware. I love the faucet coming from the wall! No way would I totally reno that kitchen. It is totally "cottage cute"!!! Oh - and the sign is perfect.

I love it. Personally I wouldn't try to make it look older, but I have a thing about pieces being authentic. I feel that if you want a "vintage" sign then you may as well pay to have an actual antique. Anyway, this will age (slowly) itself!

I LOVE that sign. Looks just perfect in that spot. I love Grocery - or maybe Fresh Eggs? I'm needing something new above my kitchen window too (well, I need a whole bunch of 'something new' in my kitchen. But for now, a new sign may have to do the trick!

I have never worked with wood stain before so I look forward to more details on what you used to make your version.
