hmmmm am I the only one who has had an issue with the slipcovers seams ripping when trying to get them back on? Both my Ektorp sofa and my Jennylund chair covers the seam ripped right where the arm and seat seams meet. And my original white covers that I had for the Jennylund chairs, I washed in hot water as was in the care instructions and they shrunk immensely, not just a bit. I love these slip covered items, but am so disappointed in the shrinking.

I had a chili stain on my lien blouse. I thought what to do?...so, I went to the WWW found a suggestion but wondered would it really work because it was so easy. The helpful hit: rub a sliced lemon on the stain and set it out in the bright sun. Yes, to my surprise, it really worked. If you choose to try the suggestion---watch it closely because it may bleach it out more than you want. Good Luck. If this succession is printed above--sorry for the repeat.

Thanks for this article - very helpful! I just moved into an apartment with four dirty slipcovers on IKEA chairs and am excited to have successfully cleaned them! I used the products you suggested but modified the method, first treating the stains w/ a similar spot remover of the same brand, then soaking the covers in buckets with oxiclean for several hours, emptying the buckets a few times to refill with hot water and more oxiclean. A lot of dirt and stains came out at that stage. Finally I just washed them normally in the machine with warm water, an extra rinse, and a "stain cycle" (an option on my washing machine - not sure what it means). They came out almost perfect, with just a few remaining small stains. I'm happy I found your article with these cleaning product ideas - thanks!

I have had no issues with cleaning my slipcovers but the zipper sliders are cheap and quickly break .. I'm going to go to our local IKEA to see if they any spare ones as they're no longer being manufactured ... just my luck eh? YKK 25 zippers

Hello. I recently washed my white covers using Era and oxyclean and they came out with yellow blotches all over. Have you ever had this happen? I have used Era and oxyclean in the past with no issues. I have found info on line about oxyclean causing yellow stains on clothing that cold be removed with denture cleaner which is our next step to try!

I AM PLANNING ON PURCHASING THE EKTORP W/ WHITE SLIPCOVERS AND GET HOW EASY THEY ARE TO WASH, BUT I OFTEN SEE (INCLUDING YOUR PHOTOS) THAT THE SKIRT IS ALWAYS PULLED LOOKING AND SHRUNKEN (ABOUT 2" FROM THE FLOOR.) The above picture is of my slipcovers after washing. They are a tighter fit on the cushions / frame than when they are brand new out of the packaging from Ikea however they still fit snugly everywhere. Hope that helps!

Holy cow I just used the Rit whitewash on my ikea Henriksdal white slipcovers chairs and BAM! They are super white and beautiful! I wanted the color to be more white like my PB couch instead of a yellow/white and it did the job perfectly! All you have to do is throw it in your washing machine and wash in hot water...what a noticeable difference..will use it whenever they get dingy! thanks for the stain remover advice...will be useful in the future ☺️

OK...glad to find this. I just put my slip covers in with OxyClean on hot. My only issue is that we just got another foot of snow and the temperature is like -200 degrees F.....slight exaggeration, and there's no way I can hang to dry. Has anyone tried the dryer? Will the slipcovers shrink. (Eeek).

Hi Kristy, the same has happened on a few occasions. I think it may be a combination of the Oxyclean not dissolving properly and the washer being too full. In order to correct this, try dissolving the Oxyclean completely before adding the cushions to the water. Also, try to put fewer cushions in per wash. This should solve the problem and they should come out fine next wash. In my case, they did both times. Hope that helps. :)

I just washed my white Ikea slipcovers for the first time. I used the exact same supplies as you mentioned. However, mine ended up with several areas of discoloration on multiple pieces. It almost looks bleached in a few areas, though I didn't use any bleach in my wash. I'm so sad. Not sure if I should wash it all again.
