I have never been a fan of brick, so I wholeheartedly recommend that you paint it. What fun you will have picking a color!

congrats on that...i have yet to win this argument. the boyfriend thinks it would be too much maintenance, even tho i've showed him some great after shots from the paint website so he's seeing our actual house...nothing. lucky you, and i'm only slightly bitter.

In my brick-painting-research I've read that you have to repaint every five years or so. I'm committed to that (in my mind) because the change will be so worth it.

We have a painted brick house and I think it looks nice. I'm not sure when it was done but it could use a little maintenance but generally it seems A-OK to me! And the house next to us (attached, identical) is NOT painted and it is showing much more wear.

I stumbled on your blog tonight and I really like it! Your son is adorable! The reason I'm writing is that my husband is a mason and I showed him your brick picture. The white stuff is from moisture and the only thing to take it off is a acid wash but, it's bad for the brick. He hates that color of brick because the reds and oranges are the ones that do that the most. Good luck, I hope your husband let's you paint it! :)

What an amazing project for the summer. My mom tells me that she and my father painted our little tiny bungalow when I was 6 months old. Apparently I hung out in a playpen in the driveway. Anyway, she told me that they painstaking painted just the brick and left the mortar unpainted. We drove by it a few years ago and the new owners repainted everything, mortar included a pea soup color. To each his own. I'm sure it will look wonderful.
